FYI I'm a "Hindu" but I find this least offensive

Interesting exchange about 'sacred cows'!

I guess there's a serious misunderstanding of "Hindu" religion/s. I'm supposed to be "Hindu" as per my country's census but there is no formal ideology that I or any "Hindu" I know have been indoctrinated in. Indeed, certainly none that says - take offense at the phrase 'sacred cow' even when turned into a hamburger!! I suppose one who is more exposed to Abrahamic religions needs to step out of the mindset of religions organised around ideologies (social, political or even militaristic) to understand what religion means in "Hindu" context - largely an exclusive, personal set of practices and beliefs where one has little compunction to preach and proselytise.

As a sidelight, I feel this is one of the reasons why Hindutva (a 20th century attempt at a Hindu Political ideology) has very few takers and the 'majority' (more like rest of India - other than those who follow Christianity and Islam) are hardly drawn to it to make it a credible political force in Indian electoral results.

Personally, I'd prefer the burger patty to be chicken or lamb or even pork!!
