Reader comment on item: Europe under Siege

Immigration in the UK is a scandal of massive proportions. Asylum laws are being systematically abused and flouted by human rights lawyers representing clients who make totally false claims. This costs the country some three billion pounds a year. Human rights lawyers can make up to a million a year - small wonder, it's such a lucrative business. Only 20% of asylum seekers are granted asylum but many of them simply disappear while their cases are being considered.

The Home Office recently admitted to half a million illegal immigrants in the UK - you can bet that the real figures are double. One particular way of entry into the UK is through students, marriage and dependent relatives, most of whom come from Pakistan and will not make the wonderful contribution to the economy that the apologists in the liberal media and the Government claim, and represent a further burden on our already taxed health, welfare systems, transport and housing in our small island. Immigration rules are flouted and the machine surrounding it is tangled in a web of inefficiency and bureaucracy.

The present Government has shown itself to be unfit to manage this problem but instead of sorting it out continues to invite yet more people in to satisfy the insatiable demand of employers for cheap labour. There is already a large pool of labour in the UK that is thrown on the scrapheap such as the disabled or people of 50 upwards. Recently, the Government has realised that there are 2 and half million people on disability benefits. They have made little or no effort to try and help these people into work and why should employers use disabled or mentally ill people when they can get something cheap, disposable and young from Africa or Asia? We also keep hearing the lie peddled constantly from the Government, the CBI and the left media alike (strange bedfellows indeed) that the indigenous British are workshy and many businesses would collapse without the contribution of immigrants. It's quite easy to expose this lie. When one travels to rural areas in the UK where there are few immigrants, the indigenous population are the people doing the menial jobs. But we're not even allowed to say this as we will instantly be labelled "racist."
