Driven to Nationalism

Reader comment on item: Europe under Siege

Submitted by Andrew (United Kingdom), Oct 18, 2005 at 18:17

The mainstream political parties across Europe are either pro-immigration, because they want to keep their corporate donors happy with an endless flow of cheap labour, and care nothing for the social implications (like Blair's Labour Party); or they do not want to tackle the problem because it is so vast and messy; or they are too spineless to say anything in case they are called 'racist'. (In the UK occasionally a backbench MP will stick his head above the parapet and make a few supposedly controversial remarks about immigration, then never be heard from again, that is about as far as it gets.)

This leaves the nationalist parties like Front National, Vlaams Belang and BNP. European citizens are turning to these parties in droves because, for them, immigration is the burning issue of the day, and they are waking up to the fact that the careerist mainstream politicians are never going to do anything about it.

Eventually the nationalist parties will get into power, like Vlaams Belang is on the verge of doing in Belgium, then the disastrous effects of fifty-plus years of immigration craziness will start to be rolled back. We can only hope that this swing towards nationalism happens soon, because the problem just gets harder to deal with as time goes on.
