Magdalene's Solution Will Not Work

Reader comment on item: Europe under Siege
in response to reader comment: What we can do

One of the main reasons for the continuing problems in the world is that we are unable to learn from our history. At one time, countries like Ghana, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and South Africa were productive, self-sustaining and thriving nations. In particular, the nations of Zimbabwe and South Africa were listed among the top wealthy nations of the world.

However as the government of these nations reverted from colonial rule to self-government, dictators, tyrants, generals and self-worshiping leaders came to power. They very quickly returned these nations to poverty while they accumulated great personal wealth. These nations continue to wallow in poverty and internal wars as their leaders continue to bellow for the world to unconditionally solve their financial problems.

It is pointless to continue channeling money and aide to these nations, unless we can first endow their corrupt leaders with enough wealth so that they will allow foreign aide to reach the needy people with out diverting it to their own pockets. And nations are reluctant to invest in countries whose governments are dictatorial, unstable and corrupt. Maybe we should appoint all these corrupt leaders to prestigious offices in the United Nations, reward them with huge salaries and expense accounts and convince the people to accept temporary government from European, Western and Oriental nations until some of their people have been trained to govern themselves.
