Reader comment on item: Europe under Siege

Submitted by Kenneth S. Besig (Israel), Oct 18, 2005 at 14:49

This is a very difficult period in world history, comparable to the period preceding the Second World War, and the outcome of this battle between the First and Third world will be just as momentous as World War Two. The real question is whether Europe, and America as well, has the resources and the fortitude to stay the course and use the necessary violence to discourage illegal immigration/invasion on their respective borders. Of course the West will also have to find the will and the military means to force the foreign governments which are exporting these invaders to put a stop to it.

As a practical matter stopping this invasion is really no problem, the necessary police and military forces can be raised quickly and put to work immediately to seal European borders. Unfortunately, as a policy matter it is fraught with real difficulties. Europe, and the United States to a lesser extent, believe they need cheap foreign labor to support their state mandated welfare policies. Europe and America also maintain a fuzzy and dangerous liberalism which has stressed compassion and understanding at the expense of tough decision making. Moreover, the presence of large numbers of foreign expatriates in European nations has already made it difficult for European lawmakers to enact the necessary legislation to prevent the massive influx of uneducated, impoverished, hostile, and often violent economic migrants.

Thus, time will tell if Europeans and Americans value their freedoms, progress, and of course standard of living enough to actually fight for them. And by fight, I don't mean speeches and declarations bemoaning the situation and offering sympathy and understanding of the plight of the Third World, by fight I mean taking up firearms and physically resisting the invaders up to the point of taking their lives.
