weakness of democracy

Reader comment on item: Europe under Siege

Immigration into the West by Africans, Muslims and Latinos highlights a weakness of democracy. Many people in the western world do not want large enclaves of foreigners in their countries but do not have the political power to stop further illegal immigration and remove those already here. These are willing to use force to stop and remedy this problem.

However, there are quite a few others who want this immigration or do not want to deal with it and its future consequences. Those who want to end illegal immigration and clean it up must share the vote with others who do not want to fix illegal immigration. Also, the media in western countries excoriates anyone who speaks against illegal immigration and especially those who want to reverse it. Therefore, the political will to stop illegal immigration is brewing. But how long will it take before it galvanizes into action? And will there ever be any action to remove these illegals?

I for one do not want these illegals to ever gain a vote in my country and turn it into another version of their country of origin. I for one do not want the West to refight the struggle to have law-and-order, toleration of all religious belief, limited government and free market economics. Immigrants from Africa/Muslim world/Latin America do not have good track records on these things. I would like to spend my life enriching science, technology, cultural pursuits (music, art, architecture etc), not trying to assimilate these type of peoples. I just cannot see how they are compatible with us.
