in response to reader comment: Jpost opinion: "Is Jerusalem a Sacred Islamic City?"

Dear Dr Pipes,

Your reader Camelinspace from Israel provided a link to Mohammad Tawhidi's article in Jerusalem Post. Mohammad Tawhidi is an Islamic cleric in Australia. Mr Tawhidi acknowledged that Muslims have no claim on Jerusalem. I agree. Mr Tawhidi provided some historical references. He told us that General/Prophet Mohammad appointed Commander to attack Jerusalem but before the attack could take place G/P Mohammad died. Mohammad's successors instead of thinking peace, thought war and continued with Mohammad's policy or attack and violence. A few decades later, Islamic forces massacred people in Jerusalem and built their mosques.

Well, what is new? They did the same thing in the east (Sindh) and in the west (Northern Africa and Spain). Beautiful Mediterranean sea did not melt their heart. And when they ran over the then beautiful Persian empire and the modern Swat valley, it did not melt their heart. When they encountered the most peaceful religion (Buddhism) of that time, even that did not melt their heart. Nothing melted their heart. religious Massacre continued for centuries.

That is why I believe that Muslims have no claim on any thing in any part of the world. For crying out loud they even won Mecca by violence. And they did violence in Medina as well. If they live in peace and humility as all of do, that is OK. When they claim anything as theirs, the response should always be the same: Go back and come back as monks. This is the polite but firm policy.
