Reader comment on item: The Swiss Ban on Minarets: A Possible Turning Point
in response to reader comment: Freedom of religion is one-sided in Islam

Oh Really? I wonder which Moslem nation you have visited to come up with this astonishing knowledge. Let me give you some info about facts not myths.

Since Christianity & Judaism existed before Islam, many Islamic countries have churches and synagogues in their countries already. Therefore, they dont need to re-build churches. You said that repairing is not allowed. In my country which is Turkey many Greek, Assyrian and Armenian Churches had been restored and opened for worship in Anatolia. There are also apartment churches for Turks who have converted to Christianity. They have their communities all over Turkey.

You have written that Islamic countries do not even recognize freedom of religion. This is a very WRONG statement. In my country many Moslems freely convert to Christianity. They can freely talk about religions. Moreover, my grandfathers exercised freedom of religion when your grandfathers were busy burning women as witches and expelling Jews from their homeland. If you read about the history of the Ottoman Empire, you would be surprised to find out how many Christians ran to the Ottomans for refuge from oppressive Christian rule. If you read further, you will see that our most religious empirer granted safety for 800.000 Jews because Alhambra decree of 1492 were ordered the expulsion of Jews from Spain.

Jews and Christians exercised their religious laws seperately in the Ottoman Empire which is called the Millet system. In other words they were very FREE. The only exception was the criminal law which bounded the whole people of the empire.

Swiss ban is a shame. In democracy you can't choose which religion should be granted rights and which should not. PERIOD
