European intifada?

Reader comment on item: The Swiss Ban on Minarets: A Possible Turning Point

Submitted by Peter Herz (United States), Nov 30, 2009 at 19:38

It seems that most efforts to contain European anti-Islamic sentiment come from elites. If Europe were more democratic and less bureaucratic, there'd probably be more such votes across Europe.

However, there is a caveat. Radical Islamicism and European elites' unwillingness to confront it have resulted in a new lease on life for parties like the British National Party, which is avowedly racist. As a slightly off-white American, this makes me wince.
