Baker Report and Bush War Plan

Reader comment on item: James Baker's Terrible Iraq Report

Submitted by James Welsh (United States), Dec 12, 2006 at 13:06

As I watch the Iraq situation become more and more muddled (no one in positions of power or responsibility seems to have the guts to say the obvious) I begin to see some parallels with Vietnam.

Like Vietnam, we are allowing the enemy to have sanctuary and to have safe and secure lines of supply. Syria and Iran now control this conflict. Yet they have no fear of paying a price for their activity. They are the prime instigators of this conflict. Until the United States faces up to this challenge, we will continue to fight an unending guerilla war in which the enemy risks and fears nothing. If the Bush Administration is not willing to take the necessary steps to win this war, then justice demands that our troops be withdrawn. Our brave men and women should never be committed to any battle with less than total victory as a goal. The ISG report is a disgraceful chapter in this continually deteriorating Bush Adminisration.

The fact that George Bush actually facillitated the formation of this group indicates he no longer has the stomach for the fight. "Going wobbly" must be a genetic deficiency. Bring them home, this general is not going to lead them to victory. Of course we will now have to pay the price but just a bit sooner than the present policy is leading us into. So sad.
