An atrocity of terrible proportions?

Reader comment on item: A Nike e o 11 de Setembro

"Looking ahead, nothing but an atrocity of terrible proportions will wake liberals and make "united we stand" once again a meaningful slogan."

We've been warned since at least 1983, more directly in 1993 when the World Trade Center was attacked the first time. All we heard as the jihadists grew was that sooner or later they would again attack America.

What was 9./11 but an atrocity of terrible proportions? That three thousand died, rather than thirty thousand, doesn't reduce it to a "nuisance". If an attack on Americans in office buildings in New York (among the most liberal cities in the nation and the source of much liberal funding) didn't galvanize liberals, then what will?

Must the occupant of the Oval Office be a Democrat for them to support him or her? That doesn't speak well for Democrats. However, if that is the reality, then maybe conservatives should pray for a liberal to occupy the Oval Office. If America survives the next atrocity, there might still be time to put it back together again.
