Reader comment on item: A Nike e o 11 de Setembro

As I reflect on the attacks of September 11, 2001, I can only ask why and how such indiscriminate evil could mask itself in the name of a benevolent god. How could faith in something so holy and pure degenerate into such unholy acts? In Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, God in his purist form is love. We are his chidren in all faiths. How can one be of true faith no matter the ideology and pervert that faith into such hate? How can any person of faith purposely bring about the death of another of God's children.

To do so is to disavow God in all religions and to become godless. Whether Muslim, Jew, or Christian, murder is above all other sins. To murder is to strike down that which has life through the will of God and thus place oneself over God. This is a sacralige in all religions. Whatever the politics, nations will rise and fall and good will remain in constant conflict with evil. Wars are caused by man's vanity in believing their beliefs to be justified over God's will. What I find most confusing is that these young men all began life as someone's children. How is it that they never came to see the beauty and sanctity of life? How did they decend to such depths of evil? Were they ever shown love? What false prophets misled them into believing their actions could be the will of God?

My heart goes out to the families effected by attacks of September 11, 2001. My prayers are with them and those they lost so violently. My prayers are also with the families of those who struck them down. They are to be pitied. For while the souls of the innocent lost that day have gone to the loving arms of God, their attackers have surely been damned with no hope of redemption. One must reflect if through the granting of free will, God has created the cruelest of all sins.
