Suspicions such as Mr. Willruth's are based on his own disdain for Evangelicalism, and do not actually take into account the practical realities that exist in Christian support of Israel. Christians support Israel in everyday areas of need; financially and politically. Financially in the case of aiding refugees making aliyah and supplying welfare organizations; and politically we petition our gov'ts to support Israel where the rest of the world unfairly condemns it.
As to the accusation that Christian Zionism is apocolyptic or theologically destabilizing, I would respond by saying that a large portion of Zionist theology is derived from the eternal nature of God's covenant with Abraham as well as from the prophetic literature in the hebrew scriptures themselves. If Rabbinic Judaism allowed for prophetic pondering, they would be forced to come to strikingly similar conclusions in some areas. In any case, no Christian; Covenant or Dispensationalist, believes that the hand of God can be forced by human effort. What this is entails is irrelevant, since no Jew would actually believe in this sort of thing anyway.
We also need to take into account that there are Ultra Orthodox religious authorities in Israel who tell their followers to refuse to serve in the IDF, hold a job, or even acknowledge the existence of the State of Israel itself.
