Dear Professors Mearsheimer and Walt,

I attach an open letter which I addressed to you in a sincere effort to
promote the type of civilized discussion you called for in the closing
comments of your response to critics.

I trust that, as serious academics, you will accept the criticism which I
offer in the sincerely constructive spirit which I intend and I would very
much appreciate it, if you would spare the time for a considered
(preferably open) reply.

Professor Walt's reply

Dear Mr. Ostroff: Thank you very much for your thoughtful critique of our article and subsequent response. You raised a great many points and I'm afraid we will not be able to reply to all of them at this time, but we will be preparing a lengthy "response to critics" later this year.
