MERSHEIMER AND WALT AND ALLIES, CAUGHT IN THEIR LIES, ER, DISTORTIONS

Reader comment on item: Is Campus Watch Part of a Conspiracy? [On Mearsheimer-Walt and "The Israeli Lobby"]

Submitted by JERRY BORIS (United States), Aug 13, 2008 at 17:30

So Mearsheimer and Walt, with their sympathizers have once more been exposed as bigots, singling out ISRAEL for one-sided criticism. Notwithstanding their overtly expressed anti-Israel bias, recent support for the two professors comes from Antony Sullivan a Media sympathizer of M & W, who refers to ZIONIST, a sure indicator of hostility, rather than pro-Israel, etc. as in this earlier Pipes' notation, viz:
June 21, 2008 update: Middle East Policy published in its Summer 2008 issue a review by Antony T. Sullivan of The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy. Although Sullivan hails the book "one of the most important books written during the past three decades," he also criticizes it for sloppiness on the issue I raise here. He mentions my name in a list of "strongly pro-Israeli individuals" and then observes:

Of course, a number of these hard-core neoconservatives may indeed have accepted financial or other favors from Zionist sources and thereby qualify for specific inclusion in the lobby. But which ones? And what and how much? Mearsheimer and Walt do not say. In the absence of any such evidence, it would be far more accurate to describe these and similar individuals as fellow-travelers of the lobby, not as card-carrying members.

Sullivan also mentions the Middle East Forum in a parallel list of institutions, then asks the same questions of "what and how much"?

Anti-Jewish propagandists like M & W invariably at some point or other, reveal their anti-Semitic bias and pro-Arab sympathies by employment of the term ZIONIST" rather than ISRAELI, a sure sign of bias.

Note also in Sullivan's remarks, how he distorts while propagandizing, when he notes:

"hard-core neo-conservatives MAY (my accentuation, JMB) ... have accepted financial and other favors..."

If Mearsheimer, Walt and Sullivan are as objectively and impartially concerned, as they claim, rather than with religiously oriented motivations, they would surely ALSO be wondering about Saudi cartel-induced OPEC extractions from world oil-based consumers, both here at home in the USA and elsewhere on the Globe, measured in the TRILLIONS, rather than unsupported speculations of financial inducements by the "neo-cons" or others. .

That a number of prominent Americans and others have accepted huge bonuses and financial rewards from the Saudis, to lobby AGAINST mini-Israel is ignored by Messrs Mearsheimer and Walt, and of course, by Sulivan, himself, These ACTUAL recipients of Saudi largesse include, but are not limited to, Former Secretary of State, James Baker, reputed to be paid $5 milion per year for representing Saudi Arabia in legal and consultation matters, as well as substantial millions (sic) to former President , Jimmy Carter, well-known for his heavy attacks on Israel both during and since his Presidency, as well as payments to innumerable others. Surely the large and even extravagant distribution of money-favors by the Saudis FAR exceeds what ever pitiable money is connected, under the most optimistic claims, by Israel and its supporters.

Yet the time-honored understanding that taking money destroys objectivity, is ignored by Mearsheimer, Walt and Sullivan, as they strongly infer it is Israel and its supporters who are the ones motivated by money payments, not the Saudi-sympathizers, despite the latters' heavy acceptance of large Arab payments.

Somehow, M & W and Sullivan, have managed to ignore the attacks on the American pocketbooks waged by the Saudi-directed OPEC OIL CARTEL, an illegal consortium under numerous American laws, like RICO, "Racketeer Induced Corrupt Organization" with its transfer of TRILLIONS of dollars from the pockets and piggybanks of American taxpayers to the desert sheikhdoms.

Where is there any sign that all these ciritics are motivated by intellectual and moral urgings, rather than earning their keep from the proceeds of Arab oil control?

Talk about powerful Lobbies!!! The readers are invited to note comparatively how many of our Major Media have seldom, if at all, mentioned the strong influence of these Saudi-motivated lobbies, who are simply too numerous to include herein, including the many who rush to print regularly in support of the so-called "Palestinian" claims to all of Israel .
