Reader comment on item: Islamophobia?

Submitted by John Bastile (Hong Kong), Nov 11, 2005 at 10:27

Dear L. Azzy,

Islamist terrorists killed innocents in Sept 11. Muslims quickly claimed that "Islam is a religion of peace" and asked us to read the Quran.

I did that, and found horror-filled verses in it and read your sura and hadiths and found answers to what was puzzling about Islam.

When we share what we learnt, you claim that we are making these things up. I see, you expect miracle to happen when you asked us to read your Quran. Most muslims I know sing praises and hyped about the Quran and the prophet, so much that they concentrate on building a layer of attributes to them that they forgot the core essence of the message.

For example, you claimed that your prophet is "the greatest man to ever live on Earth". I wonder what benchmark you used.

-- He married a 6 year old girl. An example for mankind of all times?
-- He married his Zayd's, his adopted son, wife. Zayd has to divorce her so that your prophet can marry her. Allah has to even send a divine revelation to absolve this incestous crime.
-- He died prematurely due to food poisoning by one of his captive wives. She even said, "If you are a real prophet, Allah will protect you". Looks like not. The only prophet of God to die prematurely?

Is that the REAL REASON why muslims hated Jews? Your prophet was killed by a Jewish woman. You can't really blame her. Her family and her clan were killed with her taken to be raped by your prophet. A man with the sexual prowess of 30 men.

WHAT are my sources? The Quran and the Hadiths of course.

Let's get to the point.

The secular West respects all religions. However, it is wary of religious people penetrating into the power of the State.

Islam is not just religion of the muslims. Islam encompass "the entire code of life" for the muslims. Therefore, Islam is also an ideology.

I do not hate muslims. The vast majority are good human beings... What I hate is the ideology that Islam represents. The same goes for Nazism. I don't hate Germans, I hate Nazism.

I don't hate Islam the religion. Personally, I don't think it qualifies as a religion until you stop killing apostates. Only cults do that, not religions.

I hate Islam the ideology of hate. I am offended by the hateful messages that the Quran contains for non-believers. It's not our fault that we are non-believers. Allah has designated, pre-ordained, veiled my eyes, and ordered you to kill me.

Let's agree to disagree. Muslims found the cover of Burger King's ice-cream cone offensive. I find the Quran offensive. Since, we are to respect each other, let's remove all these offensive materials, okay?
