Will someone please explain the 90% statistic for Muslim-Muslim killings

Reader comment on item: Arab-Israeli Fatalities Rank 49th

Certainly, I am no expert in ME conflicts and ethnicities, so forgive me, but from the figures above I am unable to discern the origin of the statistic, "some 11,000,000 Muslims have been violently killed since 1948".

Nor can I see the basis for the claim that "90 percent of the 11 million who perished were killed by fellow Muslims."

The only clear Muslim-Muslim conflict I can identify in Heinsohn's list is the Iran-Iraq war, and this accounts for only 1 million deaths.

Where are the other 10 million Muslim deaths?

Which of these conflicts can be defined as Muslim-Muslim?

I am hearing people blithely repeating the claim re Muslim-Muslim killings, but none of the many web pages that have cut-and-pasted this article wholesale have bothered with any analysis. I think a little more scholarly clarity is urgently needed.
