Number (almost) right, focus distortedReader comment on item: Arab-Israeli Fatalities Rank 49th Submitted by joe rose (United Kingdom), Oct 10, 2007 at 08:44 Won't discuss the numbers (although the Iraq post-2003 is much larger, possibly 10X). Assuming they are correct, I will tell you why I think the 49th "arab-israel" conflict is so present in the media - Some cases reflect self-inflicted harm , with little or no outside influence - In most of the cases the harm was inflicted as direct result of western (mainly american) intervention and/or incitation (though you do not point it out in any instance, even the most blatant; i.e., vietnam war (USA vs Vietnam), Nicaragua (USA vs Nicaragua) or Iraq post 2003 (USA vs Iraq) and 1991-2003 (USA-UK sanctions). Also, in most cases the coflict has ended. The arab-israeli conflict, on the other hand, looks increasingly bad, and as you know (even as you deny it) is at the center of the Arab-world distrust of the west and america in particular.
