Reader comment on item: Arab-Israeli Fatalities Rank 49th

Your on-going articles and analyses on Mid East problems are most appreciated. However, as the years go by, and rational examinations of the issues result in no changes, in fact there continues to be a worsening of the situation, my expectations for change, and fears for the future, multiply. I cannot rid myself of memories of the past. In fact, I believe we are staring in the face of WWIII.

I was ten years old in 1941, old enough to remember the grown ups' expressions of horror and sorrow that as each year went on with no efforts being made to stop the madness in Europe. Well, there was Winston Churchill but few backed him up, and no changes were forthcoming. Now we have you, and quite a few others, trying your best to enlighten us all. With the expansion of media outlets for the information, and good people dispensing it, we have the knowledge we need to be convinced that we are standing on the edge of global disaster once again. What we lack is the way, or perhaps the will, to reverse the situation.

Am I naive in my old age, to be considering that there is a way? Given the lessons of the past, it appears that some sort of pre-emptive moves whould be taking place. We didn't do it then and we aren't going it now. What makes us think that history will not repeat itself?
