A salutary reference in terms of the "mass mental illness" in the Middle East you allude to through quoting Albert Einstein, a man of great humanity, would be Isaiah Berlin's essays "The Power of Ideas", especially the essay on Herzen , "A revolutionary without fanaticism", "The Origins of Israel", "Jewish slavery and emancipation", and maybe even, "Chaim Weizmann's Leadership".
