Reader comment on item: Caught on Tape: The Middle East's Culture of Cruelty
in response to reader comment: Islam is not a religon of terrorism

Submitted by Crystal Hassan (United States), Feb 8, 2011 at 19:05

This is true, John, Islam is NOT a belief in terrorism. Islam is actually a very peaceful religion if one is true to its beliefs. Many Muslims, however, tend to follow the rules that benefit them and ignore the duties they have to others. Repeatedly I have observed men who were the best men you could meet and then later they become violent. I have noticed this more strongly among Middle-Eastern men especially which causes me to wonder if there is something else in the culture that causes violence. I do not think Islam is the problem but possibly linguistic differences, possible genetic predispositions, the Sharia law (if one studies the history of its formation, they'd know what I'm talking about), and the wider culture in general might be. Also, when people are given ultimate authority over other people they have tendencies to become "evil." This phenomenon is shared across cultures, it's human nature.
