Culture of Death, of Mindless MurderReader comment on item: Caught on Tape: The Middle East's Culture of Cruelty Submitted by Patrio (United States), Jun 12, 2009 at 13:35 Please consider what it is that you are thinking about when you think about "the Middle East" or "Middle Eastern Culture." ... If you spoke to someone from this region, how would you speak to him/her? The tone of this article strongly resembles the kind of terrorist recruiting tool that is employed by our enemies: take a feature of a culture (waterboarding, pornography), use it as a symbol to create a culture (America, the secular enemy of religion who can and will kill your children to fulfill its global aspirations), and fix that image as firmly as possible in the minds of your listeners. Make sure that it is strong enough that they are dealing with that image every single time the region or the people come to mind. Readers: You go ahead and draw the logical conclusion from this article - what should we do when we are threatened by a "culture" that is so utterly brutal and stubbornly deadly as "the Middle East"? The picture that Pipes paints leaves the reader few alternatives, and most of the comments reflect that. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
