Myopic Paradigm

Reader comment on item: Immanuel Kant vs. Israel

Submitted by Marilyn Abramovitz (Canada), Aug 17, 2010 at 20:30

This argument regarding European and Western antipathy towards the concept of nation states has been posed before -- and makes a lot of sense if one considers how Europe emerged bloodied and tainted from two wars fought over nationalistic goals. But, this reaching towards a messianic sense of oneness - the citizen of the world paradigm - fails to explain European and Western sympathy towards Palestinian nationalistic aspirations.

As before, Israel, as the Jew amongst nations, has come to represent yet another attempt at scapegoating Jews. In classic antisemitism Jews have always been seen as reflecting those elements that go against the perceived intellectual paradigms of the moment. This irrational antipathy towards Israel is nothing less than classic antisemitism emerging under yet another umbrella, and as such we Jews and Israel must prepare themselves for the fight of our lives.
