Kant and Islam

Reader comment on item: Immanuel Kant vs. Israel
in response to reader comment: Interesting point of view

Submitted by Anne Julienne (Australia), Aug 17, 2010 at 19:46

Kant never advocated the abandoning of nation-states but rather a federation of free states. Islam, by contrast, advocates an international Islamic government but without the individual nation-states. For Islam, the UN is step 1 only. For Kant, the UN should be disbanded and replaced by a federation of truly free states, states like the US and Israel, Britain and India, but not states like most of the others in the Middle East. And voting is not what makes a free state: free speech, free press, free association, religious freedom, and transparent government are some of the elements usually lacking in the ME, apart from Israel.
