Reader comment on item: CAIR's Inner Workings Exposed

Submitted by Aisha (United States), Oct 15, 2009 at 20:19

You know, i worked briefly for CAIR and I have to say that unfortunately you are correct in a lot of ways. And I am Muslim, so I should be supportive of the organization. What I discovered was that CAIR seemed to be more interested in making money than in helping other Muslims. They also liked to meet with Law Enforcement to keep up good relations - and yes, these meeetings were pleasant, but I don't think they accomplished much. I thought at one point that the FBI must be sick of seeing us.

When I really tried to get "out there" to help individuals, I was not supported at all. It didn't seem that CAIR was interested in helping other Muslims; rather they were interested in getting donations. This greatly saddened me.

As for the text books you mention - if they are that biased they should not be used. It IS important to teach kids about other religions in the world while bearing in mind that in many countries, religion and tradition have bee intertwined. Also, there are some 2 billion Muslims on the planet - one cannot assume that a book can do more than give a bried overview. People of all faiths and from all cultural backgrounds make up this world, and most of them are quiet, peace-loving people. It makes me sad to think of what you have just written.
