Too much money for their own goodReader comment on item: That Surreal Gaza Reconstruction Conference Submitted by freud99 (United States), Mar 3, 2009 at 08:23 If we did not already have numerous other reasons supporting the need for energy indepdendence, this alone would be sufficient. The world's need for oil empowers despots who do what they want with their money. We need to do whatever it takes, wind power, solar, atomic, shale, oil sands, biomass---whatever, to reduce the petrodollars flowing to the Middle East. Regarding the US contribution, that's public relations ("mendacity"?). It purchases us an expensive place at the table. It may be a strategic error on our part, but I think there is a method to that madness. And what's $900 million these days anyway?
