When people start throwing words like 50+ year-old fundamentalist Muslim hatred of America", it shows an amazing sense of selective amnesia, or lack of knowledge or both.

Iraq was part of the Baghdad Pact, that was later renamed CENTO. Iraq, Pakistan, Iran, Britian and the United States of America were bound in a defence pact, similar to NATO. These countries were allies of the United States against the USSR.

Iraq and Iraqis were major pillars of the Western alliance against communism and the USSR.

Iraq remained a freind of the USA. Iraq was helped by the USA in its war against Iran. That was when the chemical weapons were being used...and we kept quiet.

What changed? Why is Iraq now a problem. We need to ask ourselves. Certainly it is not because of inherent anti-Americanism, because Iraq was an American ally
