Reader comment on item: The Roots of Iraq's Rebellion

Submitted by Joaquim (Canada), Apr 13, 2004 at 13:38

Sorry to be blunt, but the current fighting led by al Sadr has little to do with lack of leadership. It is an almost overt war between Iran and the US. Al Sadr was trained and is generously supported by the ayatollahs, just like Hizbollah. Iran has two goals here: 1. take militarily a portion of Iraq, and 2. humiliate the US in front of the arab world. Furthermore, the ayatollah are planning to open a second front in Israel via Hizbollah and its master terrorist Mughniyeh, a figure very similar to al Sadr.

In conclusion, arab leadership is very present. Look for it in Teheran.
