Your solution to bringing peace to Iraq

Reader comment on item: The Roots of Iraq's Rebellion

You "counsel the occupying forces quickly to leave Iraqi cities and then, when feasible, to leave Iraq as a whole. They should seek out what I have been calling for since a year ago: a democratically-minded Iraqi strongman, someone who will work with the coalition forces, provide decent government, and move eventually toward a more open political system."

It is simply splendid advice.

I would supplement it as follows:

The feasible date for departure should be immediately.

One more suggestion: Saddam Hussein should be reinstated to his position of President, minus the traitors of his old council and the opportunists of the new council.

I realize this means leaving Iraq to manage its oil resources and its businesses as it sees fit. That is exactly as it should be.

In fact, as a measure of good faith, the Coalition should offer to pay for the reconstruction of all the areas it has wantonly destroyed. Wish I could say the same for the loss of Iraqi lives.

If your advice is not heeded, the democratic icon will continue to be defaced until it is no longer recognizable except as the representation of a hoarding-colonial opportunistic monster that will continue to feed wantonly on neighboring territories.

Can you imagine the worldwide sigh of relief that will be audible throughout the globe and beyond, if the steps you counsel and I suggest are applied?
