Find a "Democratically minded Iraqi"

Reader comment on item: The Roots of Iraq's Rebellion

Submitted by Tom Loper (United States), Apr 16, 2004 at 16:14

I think that the idea of moving out of the Iraqi cities is interesting and it would diminish our presence and vulnerablity to attack by insurgents. But what entity would backfill the vacuum and provide basic security for the mass of people? Surely, it has been obvious that the insurgents have no qualms about murdering their own people. With as many factions as there are the result would probably be a multi-sided civl war. In the end, the coalition forces would to have reenter the cities and restore some sort of order.

My own impression of the uprisings of the past week were, much like the Tet offensive (or maybe the German Ardennes offensive) and that they have, in their minds have been successful. The hostage taking is just another pyschological tactic aimed at the countries who have supported the coalition. If it fails as so far it has, another tactic will be tried.
Has anyone found a pro-democratic Iraqi of sufficient stature to bind the country together?
