Atificial stateReader comment on item: Two Palestines, Anyone? Submitted by Dallas (United States), Jun 24, 2007 at 23:14 There should be no surprise here, because there is no natural cultural basis for th existence of the Palestinian people. Prior to Jewish immigration into what is now Israel- but then called Palestine- a Palestinian was anyone who lived in Palestine regardless of ethnicity. The ancestors of those calling themselves Palestinian today were previously identified as simply Arab. Palestinians were intentionally redefined in ethnic terms sole as a response to a growing Jewish presence there. Without an basis for a distinct culture thee is nothing but political expedience to hold the group together Today there are two theories on how to oppose Israel. Fatah wants to go a more political road and seeks a favorable image with the West. They at least appear to distance themselves from the Islamists hoping to gain favor from the West. Hamas on the other hand, publicly and actively seeks to annihilate Israel through terrorism and would rather identify with radical Islamists. There is no basis for an case for a Palestinian state. A state based on the aspiration of genocide does not deserve a hearing. Those who give it a hearing lack moral discernment. Those who want to enfranchise stateless people should begin with bona fide stateless ethic groups like the Kurds, the Tibetans,Assyrians or the Basques. The failure of the anti-Israel lobby to care about these stateless people is best explained b this quote from Martin Luther King "When people criticize Zionists they mean Jews, you are talking anti-Semitism."
