Hindu's Celebrate Christmas in the UK

Reader comment on item: Away with Crusaders, Crucifixes, Crosses, and Christmas

Submitted by David Smith (United States), Feb 6, 2006 at 11:24

I find it quite strange why Muslims object to Christmas in the UK. I remember when I was at University and I asked my mate (who was Muslim) when he was going home as everyone else had gone home for Christmas to see their folks. His response was that as he does not celebrate Christmas he will treat like any other day and not go home to see his parents.

The University was empty, their were no classes and the only people still on Campus were the group of muslims who were trying to do their little protest. Up to them I suppose, but why do none of the other religious groups have this same attitude. I live in London in a predominently Indian Hindu area. There is no violence, muggings or no-go areas or any more crime then there was back in the day when there was only 1 or 2 indian families in the whole area.

During Christmas though, all the Hindus are having Christmas dinners and parties with massive gatherings and to be honest I admire them for that. They don't do it in a religious sense but in a traditional sense and for that I respect them.

I just don't understand why ONLY Muslims seem to be so different. I used to think that all Asian people were the same, how wrong I was, the immigrant group that is bringing down the west are the Muslim groups. Every group has it's problems but with the muslim group they don't seem to acknowledge their problems (mainly by blaming western culture, policies, jews and amercians for everything) hence the problem is getting bigger and bigger.

The goverments are not helping by allowing thinking all religious groups are the same.
