Reader comment on item: The Mystical Menace of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Submitted by John W. McGinley (United States), Jan 10, 2006 at 12:34

1. As an aside it is to be noted that there are some parallels between the Iranian president's vision for Shia Islam and the vision of some "visionary" and messiah-fueled Jews who think that the destruction of the Dome of the Rock Mosque on the Temple MOunt should be destroyed to make way for the third Temple and the coming of Moshiach. On the other hand, none of these Jews are Prime Minister of Israel.

2. I suspect that the Iranian President -- both in his Anti-West/Anti-Israel agendum and in his "mystical" motivation -- has more support among the Iranian middle class and Iranian youth then the mainstream Western media would have us believe. Waiting around for a democratically-oriented uprising in Iran is fool's gold.

3. I agree with your tie-in between the "mystic vision" of a Hitler and the "mystic-vision" of the Iranian president. I don't know whether it was Kennedy or Khruschev who "blinked" but they both had their feet on the ground and the world was saved. We should not count on this if Iran becomes a nuclear player.

4. With Ariel Sharon as leader I had no doubt that one way or another Iran would not be allowed to become a nuclear player. I no longer have that optimism. John W. McGinley
