I find the above reviewer's comments suspicious. You will not find a better account of how historically Sunni Islam's practice of the Qur'an, Sunna, amal, etc

Excuse me our dear MES what on earth is this amal?

of the earliest generations of Islam have been characterized by behaviors and actions based on na'ss (the texts of Islam).

There is an Arabic word called na'ss which means islamic texts? Is this Urdu by any chance our dear MES?

Comments above on atrocity of Westerners appears to me as an attempt of censorship.

What atrocities by Westerners? can you share with us?

More importantly, If you care to see through the shallow, uninformed, and naive views of this topic and what we typically understand, read Mark Gabriel's book (s) for a loving and truthful man with rare insights into the na'ss and amal (texts and practice) of Islam.

Oh dear the na'ss and amal again

Do you know any Arabic our dear MES? Let me guess no right?

This is not something you will find reading Donner, Hallaq, Rapoport, Crone, etc...(but please read anyhow ) I find the above reviewer's comments suspicious.

I can assure you that I read all Crone's books be it Meccan Trade and God's Caliph and Hagarism and Roman Provincial law and Islamic law and Slaves on horses and last but not least Preindustrial societies as well as Donner's great work Narratives of islamic origins and let me help you both of them are great historians of early Islam and are only interested in answering one question: "What really happened" and they do not have deal with your so called na'ss and amal what ever that is

So you tell me are you really a graduate of a Middle East Studies program here in the US and if so where?
