Reader comment on item: Muslim Europe

Submitted by Fr. Martin (United States), Jan 11, 2005 at 17:58

I am a former Muslim in England who has converted to Christ, and am a priest in the Church of England. None of this business of a Muslim Europe or even a Pan-Islamic World is scary.

If Europe wants to go towards Islamisation, it deserves to have this happen to it. Yet let's not ignore that there are droves on the continent of Africa converting to Christianity from Islam or animist religions every day, and 30,000 Chinese converting to Christianity every day from Buddhism or Maoist atheism.

Muslims are obsessed with total control and numbers--in other words, with membership and promoting homogeneity of belief. In this regard, it's no different than Communism or any other totalitarian ideology.

Christianity can exist anywhere, and isn't tied down to buildings, enchained by culture, or imprisoned by being western--because it deals directly with a relationship with an incarnate God whose desire is to save all individuals--the context doesn't really matter. It's truly universal.
