Reader comment on item: Muslim Europe

Submitted by fred lapides (United States), May 11, 2004 at 11:08

Most of Europe has lost much of its earlier belief in religion, compared to studies that show that America still very much a religious country. The greater the fundamental beliefs a group has, the more likely they are to be wary of birth control. The reasonably educated non-religious folks of Europe and elsewhere know the costs of raising children, and the cost of higher education, and thus they limit the size of families. The notion that there might be a return to religious fraith in Europe as a way of stimulating births is simply not a viable option--it is not likely to happen.

Of course one solution is a limit to immigration. But then those highly fertile peoples already here will breed in a Malthusian way, and the forcasted change is bound to happen.

The worst fear? a liberal democracy will allow a majority of Muslims to bring about new legislation--dare I say Sharia law?--as Hitler similarly used a democratic method: one man, one vote, ONE TIME.
