Reader comment on item: Goodbye Ankara

How many of us have been losing their vocal cables shouting and warning about the incompatibility of Turkey among Western nations? Turkey IS an Islamic country with an Islamist government using every trick in the book to lure Westerners into believing that Turkey is a necessary ally, Turkey has westernized itself, Turkey is a valid candidate for membership in the European Union, Turkey is a military partner to Israel, Turkey respects universal human rights, Turkey is a great industrial nation.

All this is a smoke screen and we must not be duped. The Turkish people that are following a western way of life are a minority just like those 8 million Iranians that fled Iran after Khomeini took over. The Turkish government learned a lesson from what happened in Iran and is trying its best to avoid mass immigration of its highly educated and capital strong segment of the population. Turkey is an Iran in new clothes.
