International Authorization????

Reader comment on item: Back to the Shores of Tripoli?

Dr. Pipes, I have the utmost respect and admiration for you but I wish you had worded your final statement differently:

Personally, I hope we stay out of this mess since the last two haven't turned out too well. We have expended enough blood and treasure on the Islamic world where we are hated and considered imperialists, colonists, and murderers. As for 'international authorization' to invest more borrowed treasure and young American lives in yet another Islamic inferno ; well, I won't say what I'd like to say because it couldn't be printed here but I will say this: The international communiy, the Arab League, the U.N., the OIC, or who- the- hell- ever can have this one because we don't need another 'damned if we do, damned if we don't' quagmire in a desolate Middle Eastern hellhole. And who would we be helping if we intervened, the Libyan branch of the Muslim Brotherhood waiting in the wings to establish a Shariah government?

Afghanistan and Iraq might have turned out very differently if Shariah had been kept out of their constitutions and it enrages me to think that our soldiers are fighting and dying so the Afghan fanatics can execute apostates, blow women's brains out in soccer stadiums, stone them to death , blow up girls' schools that we probably built, and destroy hundreds of millions of dollars in infrastructure we have built and paid for. Christians are being exterminated in Iraq, their homes, shops, and churches confiscated or destroyed. They have no protections or rights under the government we installed. The rights that women had under Saddam have all but vanished. Whenever Muslims figure out that they are victims of their archaic, violent, retrograde religion, they will then help themselves.
