Reader comment on item: Dueling Fatwas
in response to reader comment: Dueling Fatwas- reply to Grand Kaffir

Mr Curmally, seemingly repeating himself once more writes:

"For the age of the Prophet's last wife (may peace be upon them) you can look up any Muslim Biography. "

Thankyou - and I have.

" Marrying young girls 1400 years ago was the done thing.."

But don't you think that Mo - being the person you'd like us all to think he was - would have had the foresight to realise that people 100, 500, 1000, 1400 years hence - would have seen his actions and realised they were criminal? Some things are inherently wrong - and transcend cultural beliefs. Russians, Chinese, Anglo-saxons etc have no history of allowing 53 year old men to sleep with nine year olds as a matter of course. Why not? Caravan raiding and rape and murder have never been deemed to be acceptable socially-cohesive past-times.

"and I don't understand why you are applying your standards to an event that took place 1400 years ago? Can you answer that? "

see above. But similarly - as I mentioned - why are you using a 1400 year old book to judge today's events? Can you answer that?

'What I believe is my business and not yours."

Absolutely. You have your beliefs and are quite happy with them. But experience trumps belief any day.

"...I 'm quite sure there are holy books that are older and have their fair share bloody mindedness.Unlike you I don't put them down or ask you to believe as I so."

Have I asked you to believe what I do at any stage? If I asked you to believe ANYTHING , I'd be leading you on. Reality has nothing to do with beliefs and rites and rituals.

"So don't go there. "

I go wherever I wish

"..I shall not be replying to you anymore and this exchange has to end. "

You do whatever it is you want.

"....Because you are using adjectives to define Fatwas and the Scholars who give their opinion and not facts."

Ooops, silly me, using adjectives again!. Don't you just hate it when those words just slip out.

"At least they aren't paedophile like members of the Christian church"

Well, those few who were/are - maybe you could show some generousity , acknowledge their sickness but then help them out by finding them some 9 year old girlfriends? Apparently it's quite OK - and who are we to judge people by even 21st century nonj-islamic standards?

"As for the Buraq, there is a description in the Quran e Karim. I suggest you look it up. "

Well, gee, if it's there then it must be true, who can argue against such logic?

Still, being someone who needs just a fraction more convincing, I'll have to set aside my acceptance until the archaeologists find something in the fossil record. I know, I must be a bad person for being so obtuse!

"It will help you overcome your ignorance "

My ignorance of how completely deluded some people have deliberately let themselves become?

"If fatwas are what you say they are, you don't have to follow them do you? "

Me, having to follow fatwas? I'll have to ask my lawyer and get back to you on that one. I don't think non-muslims have any legal requirement to translate and follow gibberish from the enfeebled minds of disgruntled old arab gentlemen about what they believe is reality. I'm not sure - but I will ask.

"You can stick to the original texts and the five schools of Islamic law too namely, Hanafi, Sha'afi, Hambali, Maliki and Jaferi,"

Probably interesting from anthropological perspective but a complete wank otherwise I'm afraid...

"...and find what you are looking for.. "

an interesting phrase - and one at the crux of the matter

"....Are you trying to tell me that there was no murder or rape prior to the advent of Islam?"

let me see - was I trying to tell you that there was no murder and rape before islam? I can answer that one:No.

But now that you've brought the point up - there has been a hell of a lot of murder and rape because of islam - presumably because it has so many experts who know what it is that allah wants . on what allah wants and how anything can be excused to further the (lost) cause of islam.

If this really is our last communication, before I turn away in tears - allow me to once again point out thoughts on islam - not from myself - but from one of your leaders.
