Reader comment on item: Dueling Fatwas
in response to reader comment: Islamic comedy big time

Hello dhimmi no more,

While replying to Fazel Curmally I noticed that only some translations have a time sequence in Koran 4:34 before a 'dharb' or drubbing can be inflicted on Muslim wives. this is what I wrote to him:

Studying the translations carefully I also notice that if you remove the words in parenthesis most of them read without a time sequence for admonishing, separating and beating. Who came up with the idea that there is a sequence prescribed. Does the Arabic language allow for such a reading? Dhimmi no more could you please help? If there is no time sequence then this verse becomes even more horrendous that the translations reveal i.e. women should be admonished, thrown out of your bed and thrashed all at the same time! I hope I am wrong.

Regards

Plato
