Estimates of National Intelligence: Not Very HighReader comment on item: That NIE Makes War against Iran More Likely Submitted by JB (United States), Dec 16, 2007 at 13:11 Armed with a piece of intelligence they agreed with, the national news media leaped at the chance to attack the Bush Administration for its Iranian policy. Clearly if the NIE had indicated that Iran continues to fund a covert nuclear weapons program, there would have been repeat accusations of intelligence manipulation made against the Administration, and renewed debates over the "disingenuous" origins of the Iraq War. CNN, MSNBC, etc. will not let this one go, and the next president will have to deal with the reality of Iranian nuclear ambition while stuck with the media-fueled public perception that Tehran is the new Tripoli.
