"AMERICAN" MUSLIMSReader comment on item: [Hasan Akbar and] Murder in the 101st Airborne Submitted by Mike Davis (United States), Mar 25, 2003 at 15:19 Once again, Mr. Pipes, you've got it right on the money and almost no one wants to listen.Wouldn't you think that some American Muslim leader would stand up and say something like, "If the circumstances behind the apprehension of Hasan Akbar are true, then I am heart-sick that a an American Muslim would betray his fellow Americans in such a fashion. Although I, like many Muslims in the U.S., oppose the war in Iraq, this kind of treachery is not representative of the way Muslims should or do conduct themselves." Am I wrong, or is the silence deafening? You've talked many times about Islamists hijacking Islam. And I think it's abundantly clear that the only people who can reclaim Islam are Muslims themselves. And that doesn't seem to be happening. Here's the worst case scenario: Akbar and those in the American Muslim community who support him with their silence represent the mainstream of the religion. If so, G-d help us all. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
