Yes, the crusades were horrible atrocities commited by Christians, but one must remember how the Christian vs. Muslim conflict started:

A.D. 711- Muslims invade and conquer Spain in the name of Islam.
A.D. 718- Muslims invade but fail to conquer France, yet again, in the name of spreading Islam

also the relentless attacks over nearly a century on Constantinople before it finally fell to the Ottomans in the 1400's
