Reader comment on item: Thoughts on the Syrian Downing of a Turkish Warplane

Submitted by David D (United States), Jun 27, 2012 at 18:58

There is a mention of Turkish aggression, other that the F4 violating Syrian Air Space I am at a loss as to what the author is referring to. Frankly I am surprised the Turks haven't made a buffer zone on Syrian soil of 30 Km or more. The reason why they have not is they have a common border with Russia and Iran! And the Russians are in bed with both of these pillars of virtue.

The Syrian ports are the only place in the Mediterranean world where Russian ships have total latitude. Another reason is that Turks are not Arabs and they know all to well that by getting overly aggressive with an Arab state is frought with a plethora of unforeseen ramifications not limited to Al Quada insurgents.

Frankly, I am appalled at whats going on in Syria. Assad cannot be so deluded that he can survive this. Islamic countries have finally gotten up the courage to challenge their Despotic governments but they don't trust each other enough to make a sustainable stable government. This situation is extremely dangerous and has the potential of on out of control wild fire. Major powers could be drawn into this issue. Assad needs to leave or be neutralized.

By the way up until 18 months ago the Turks and the Syrians were very close. I am wondering ... maybe there is a hidden agenda to make all muslims out to be the bad guys. FYI I have fought in Afghanistan 3 times and twice in Iraq. ...
