Israel's Strange Dilemma

Reader comment on item: Thoughts on the Syrian Downing of a Turkish Warplane

Can we imagine Israel coming to the humanitarian aid of Syrian Alawites should (a) Turkey intervene in Syria and (b) Sunni Islamists become dominant in Syria? There are certainly Machiavellian reasons to do so -- to counter Turkey and Islamists, to sow discord among Israel's proximate enemies, and maybe even to counter Iranian influence with Hizbollah and Shiites in Syria, but it's obviously also a VERY tricky maneuver.
