There's a get out of jail card here for NATO. Even the Turks admit they violated airspace. This is not therefore an act of aggression and NATO nations are NOT required by law to come to Turkey's aid. End of story.

Yes, stay out. The Turks have baited the Syrians hoping to draw us in. When you go all in, make sure you have a hand.
