Reader comment on item: Thoughts on the Syrian Downing of a Turkish Warplane

Submitted by William Mallinson (Greece), Jun 23, 2012 at 16:36

I agree with Daniel Pipes' comment. I feel obliged, however, to add the following: first, NATO is now as big a threat to world peace as extreme Zionism and Moslem fundamentalism. It was beyond its shelf-life in 1999, when the 50-year treaty ended, but instead, undertook an illegal attack on a sovereign state, hoping to weaken a then confused Russia; since then, it has been trying to become a world polican: its role has indeed transmogrified.

Second, let no one be fooled: in the final analysis, the Turkish and israeli military are hand in glove, whatever the childish Turkish rhetoric, intended to stroke Islamic audiences inside and outside Turkey. Third, this whole dangerous game is simply an attempt to threaten 'the world island', Russia, since the UK-British-Israeli axis fears Russian power. The whole farrago is childishly obvious.
