Opinions like Iftikhar Ahmad's should not go unopposedReader comment on item: What Are Islamic Schools Teaching? Submitted by Abhi (United States), May 5, 2009 at 22:20 Dear Editor, I was just reading Iftikhar Ahmad's Feb 7, 2009 letter to your column. It is such opinions as expressed in this letter that must be opposed at all cost. Mr Ahmad has tried very hard to imply that the British education system is not suited for muslim children in Britain. From almost any point of view Mr Ahmad's opinions are absurd and stand to no reason. He thinks that British school should teach in more than one language. That is absurd. Which second laguage should the teachers pick to teach in -- Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Russian, Spanish, French, German. And who is going to pay for so many multi-lingual teachers. And why should Britain teach Arabic to its Muslim citizens when even Pakistan, Turkey, and Iran have not done so after centuries of Islamic presence in their lands. Is Mr Ahmad for real? He goes on to say that Muslim students in Britain should have Muslim schools. Absurd again. Will he also recommend similar Hindu, Buddist, and Christian school. Further, would he also recommend that Islamic Republics of the world create non-muslim schools for non-muslims. I have a simple suggestion for Muslims all over the world: Be good muslims. Follow your religion in your homes to your hearts' content and teach its mildest and best form to your children. But when you leave home, wear a secular cloak so all humans can function peacefully and constructively with each other. You will be amazed how quickly Islam gets everyone's respect and understanding and how quickly peace returns to Muslim lands.
