Reader comment on item: Muhammad Ali v. George W. Bush

Submitted by Sammy B (United States), Nov 30, 2005 at 11:02

Muhammad Ali is no plaster saint (like GW Bush) -- he's made his share of mistakes & is man enough (unlike GW Bush) to admit it (e.g., when his alliance with the NOI convinced him to turn against Malcolm X). But he has consistently used his power and fortune to HELP people rather than slaughter and exploit them, and not from inside some bubble of privilege.

He never turned his back on the poor and constantly shared his time with them. He courageously took a stand against an illegal and immoral war and was demonized by the bloodthirsty "Christian" establishment because of it. He was called a coward, when anyone with any intelligence or knowledge of history knew he'd NEVER be exposed to combat -- just the opposite, he would have been richly rewarded for helping to legitamize an ugly blot on our nation's history and paraded in show bouts for the troops (and TV cameras). He chose to refuse to act immorally, and was vigorously persecuted as a result.

Muhammad Ali is a true American hero. The only embarrassing thing about this presentation was the presenter.
