Conservatism will die out unless it rejects these three conspiracy theories.Reader comment on item: Fellow Conservatives, Please Reject Conspiracy Theories Submitted by Dong (Canada), Jan 8, 2022 at 00:11 As usual, Dr Pipes hits it on the nail. For all of leftism's problems, in the eyes of the moderates, they pale in comparison to the "Big Two" that he mentioned. May I add a third one? The idea that man-made global climate change is a hoax. Older, it's-the-economy-stupid minded folks here easily get caught into this pattern of thinking, but I can assure you - the younger generation has a much longer time horizon than you do, and they feel existential threat from climate change. Conservatism will not appeal to them unless it changes its tune on climate change. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. For complete regulations, see the "Guidelines for Reader Comments". Daniel Pipes replies: Glad we agree on my two, but I beg to differ on your addition. I don't see climate change as a conspiracy theory but as bad science which, for emotional reasons, has become sacred and indisputable. The historical record shows that shutting down dissent usually means the theory is wrong. Reader comments (46) on this item |
